The valley that has everything uphill.

Manali sits where the Kullu Valley narrows against the Pir Panjal, with the Beas running loud through the middle of town. One side is orchards and old wooden temples, the other is cafes that forgot to close.

Half an hour up the road is Solang Valley, and beyond it the Atal Tunnel punches through the mountains into Lahaul, turning a full-day expedition into an afternoon you will not stop talking about.

Green cliffs and cloud-wrapped peaks above the Lahaul valley

The journey, day by day.

Read it the way you will live it.

Day 0

The long road north

Delhi fades behind the Volvo window. Somewhere before dawn the air changes, and you wake up to pine forests and the sound of the Beas.

  • Depart Delhi in an AC Volvo
  • Overnight drive to the Kullu Valley
Snow valley road climbing toward the high Himalaya

Day 1

Solang, and a tunnel through winter

Check in, breakfast, and then straight up to Solang Valley: snow, ropeway, and more adrenaline options than you have hours.

In the afternoon the road does its magic trick. Nine kilometres of Atal Tunnel and you are in Sissu, on the Lahaul side, where the landscape stops being green and starts being epic. Bonfire at the hotel to close it out.

  • Arrive in the morning, check in and breakfast
  • Solang Valley, snow and ropeway
  • Atal Tunnel drive to Sissu, Lahaul
  • Bonfire, dinner, overnight in the hotel

Day 2

Temples, cafes and the slow side of town

This is the unhurried day. Hadimba Temple first, all cedar and quiet under the deodars. Then Old Manali: bridge, lanes, cafes with better views than menus.

Vashisht hot springs if you want them, Mall Road if you owe anyone souvenirs. The evening is yours.

  • Hadimba Devi Temple
  • Old Manali lanes and cafes
  • Vashisht hot springs
  • Mall Road evening, overnight in the hotel

Day 3

One last look at the peaks

A slow morning by the Beas, a late breakfast, and the mountains get one final photo session before the Volvo points south.

  • Breakfast and check-out
  • Evening departure for Delhi
Last light of sunset burning on the peaks above the valley

Day 4

Home, sweet home

Delhi by morning, with snow still in your camera roll. The theory holds: a weekend is enough.

  • Arrive Delhi in the morning

Somewhere between the tunnel and the snowline, the week stops mattering.

Straight from their group chats.

Real trips, told the way people actually talk about them after.

01

Manali

Snow at Solang felt like someone paused the year for a day.

We argued about whose turn it was to pay for parathas the whole ride back. Best kind of argument.

02

Manali

Third trip with them. Still the only itinerary I have not had to fix myself.

The Atal Tunnel drive at sunrise alone was worth the whole booking.

03

Manali

Booked for eight people expecting the usual chaos. Got none.

Every room was ready, every meal on time. My only job was to show up.

Manali

Grew up watching these mountains in movies. Standing under them was different.

Our trip lead pointed out which peak was which like he was introducing old friends.

05

Manali

Left Delhi on a Friday shift-end call. Was staring at snow twelve hours later.

The kind of trip you plan on a Tuesday and are still talking about a month later.
